A unified attempt at exploring a potential research topic for my masters' programme, which was the visual products of the unconscious mind. Based on work of artists who used collage as a medium to create amalgamations of portraits, I began combining portraits and photos to construct unsettling and, essentially, uncanny images.
I expanded on this idea when some old photographs came to my possession; using the same technique I joined landscapes and people together from pictures with completely different stories behind them.
Combining this experiment with my further research on the unconscious mind, I had the idea for a series of self-portraits that were disrupted in order to represent inner thoughts and an inner world.
Based on another aspect of the unconscious, that of life and death, I briefly worked on a side project that utilised the technique of etching and creating a small leaflet with transparency paper. These two concerned the concept of a human being unconsciously attracted to death due to our primitive instincts.
Since I decided to deal with the connection of the unconscious and dreams I created a short digital drawn animation where I attempted to interpret a common dream; in which case, the dream of teeth falling off.
This whole experimentation led me to spend more time and research on animation styles and techniques in order to have a better idea on how to approach said theme.
